The day has nearly arrived! Ohio Birthparent Group has been proud to partner with Adoption Equity Ohio and Adoption Network Cleveland on their quest to open the birth records for 400,000 adult adoptees who were adopted between 1964 and 1996. Our founder, Kate Livingston, played an active role in this endeavor and several of our members submitted written testimony. We shared our stories as birth parents who were not given choices in the adoption surrender process and expressed our desires for our grown children to have their rights and choices restored.
Join us as many of our members and friends will be on hand in Columbus this week to celebrate Opening Day as well as assist the many adult adoptees who will attend:
- This Thursday, 3/19, from 6:30-9:30 p.m., the forms for the release of records will be available to adult adoptees and there will be food and drink and the opportunity to come together as community.
- Friday, 3/20, brings the official opening of records and there will be an additional public event at the Riffe Center with the public and legislators and four adult adoptees will actually be handed their records from Vital Statistics.
- For the most up-to-date details, visit Adoption Network Cleveland’s opening day info page.
Members of Ohio Birthparent Group will be passing out post-adoption support information at both events on Thursday and Friday, so make sure to find us and introduce yourself!
We look forward to being a support and resource to you. If you are an adult adoptee, use this link on our website to connect with the Central Ohio Adult Adoptee Group and their monthly meetings. Also, please consider attending our Central Ohio Open Meeting on Tuesday, April 14th. If you are a birth parent, please come to our March peer support meetings. Our Cincinnati birthparent meeting is Saturday, 3/21 and our Columbus birthparent meeting is on 3/22. Reunion issues are sure to be discussed. We were proud to stand with Ohio adult adoptees in their quest for parity under the law. We are thrilled to celebrate with them now!
