Our all-adoption meetings are support and discussion groups open to anyone who is impacted by adoption or interested in life-long adoption issues. Join adult adoptees, adoptive parents, birthparents, prospective adoptive parents, women and men considering adoption, spouses, partners, extended family and friends for open discussion and peer support. This meeting is held monthly and is facilitated by peers who experience adoption as birthparents, adoptive parents and/or adoptees. There is no charge to attend and no RSVP is needed.

Meet Our Facilitators

Kate Livingston, PhD is the lead organizer and founder of Ohio Birthparent Group. She is a birthmother in an open adoption since 2001. Kate teaches at The Ohio State University and researches birthparent experiences, adoption law, and the politics of adoption in the U.S. She facilitates OBG’s Columbus-area birthparent and all-adoption groups.

Marni Hall is an adoptee placed at birth through a closed adoption in 1967. After the Ohio adoption records were opened in 2015, she found her birth mother living five miles away. She spent the first year of reunion processing her adoption. After finally being able to talk about it she experienced emotional transformation. The two words she uses to describe her reunion are validation and forgiveness. Now she is paying it forward by volunteering for adoption support groups. She wants everyone to know it is ok to talk about adoption. During the day Marni is a government accountant for the City of Columbus, while juggling the married life raising three children. She co-facilitates our Columbus All-Adoption General Support Group.

Dawn Friedman MSEd, LPC is a writer and therapist specializing in parenting and family building. Her research and training has focused particularly around adoption issues for all members of the constellation. She works with children, adolescents and adults. Dawn is also an adoptive parent whose youngest child arrived to the family via an open, domestic, transracial adoption. You can read more about her at her web site: www.buildingfamilycounseling.com

Steve Kelly is an adoptee who was placed at birth through a private adoption, and is an active supporter of adoption rights and education. He is a proud husband and father to three great kids who keep him active.  Steve is also the Fire Chief at Miami Township Fire & EMS in Clermont County. He co-facilitates our Cincinnati All-Adoption General Support Group.

Rose Curtin, Cincinnati co-facilitator (bio forthcoming)

“I attend Ohio Birth Parent Group for the invaluable chance to share with individuals from all walks of life that have been touched by adoption in some way. I love gaining insight into what the experience has been for them and adding from my own experience when helpful.”

Adoptee, 1981

“I think the General Meeting is so valuable because the broad range of attendees bring diversity of perspective and opinion.  I appreciate the opportunity to share my story, but also to support others at various stages of their own adoption journey.”

Adoptee, 1973
